Unveiling iOS 16: 10 Hidden Features That Will Transform Your iPhone Experience

Your iPhone got an upgrade this week. 10 new, hidden features no one knows about:

Upgraded to iOS 16

First off, if you haven’t upgraded to iOS 16, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install

It is available for iPhone 8 and upwards. Back to the hidden features:

1/ Mark messages as unread

Swipe right on a message to mark a message as unread. You can also long-hold on a message and select "Mark as Unread"

2/ Show battery percentage in the status bar

Go to Settings > Battery > Turn on Battery Percentage

3/ Show album artwork fullscreen

Tap the small artwork to swap your Lock Screen wallpaper and widgets with a fullscreen version of the artwork of the song you’re listening to.

Click on the artwork again to make it smaller.

4/ Scrub through the videoplayer and change playback speed

You can now scrub through videos and songs by swiping through the player. This also works on the lock screen.

You can also change playback speed to 0.5×, 1.0×, 1.25×, 1.5×, and 2.0× by clicking on "…" while playing.

5/ Remove duplicate photos

  • Go to Photos
  • Click on Albums
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Duplicates
  • Click Merge on the images you don’t want duplicates of

6/ Hide search on the Home Screen

You might have noticed a search-bar under your icons on the home screen. This invokes the same search bar that appears when you swipe down.

To hide it you can go to Settings > Home screen > Search: Show on Home Screen and turn it off

7/ Paste edits between photos

If you have edited an image and want to duplicate your edits you can "Copy Edits" from the context menu. Then go to an image you want to apply the same edits to, and choose "Paste Edits".

8/ Pin tabs in Safari

Long-press in the address bar and select "Pin". This will turn the selected tab into a semi-permanent item pinned at the very top of your tab overview.

9/ Convert Units everywhere

Almost everywhere you see a measurement you can long-tap and get a conversion. This supports temperatures, currencies, time zones and more.

If you are selecting a text you need to click the right arrow a few times to get the conversion.

10/ Support for haptic keyboard

Keyboard haptic mode makes each key press on the iPhone’s software keyboard result in subtle haptic feedback from the Taptic Engine.

Enable this in Settings > Sounds & Haptics > turn on "Keyboard Feedback"
