Discover the Power: 10 New and Exciting Features in macOS Ventura
Your Mac got an upgrade this week. 10 new, powerful features every user should know:
Upgrade to macOS Ventura
First off, if you haven’t upgraded to macOS Ventura go to System Preferences > Software Update and click "Upgrade Now"
1. Use iPhone as your webcam
Bring your iPhone (11 and later) close to your Mac and it automatically switches to iPhone as the camera input.
This enables new features like
- Portrait mode (blurred background)
- Studio Light (spotlight on you)
- Centre Stage (camera follows you)
2. Desk View
Share your drawings during meetings if you use your iPhone (11 and later) as your webcam and enable "Desk View". This mimics an overhead camera, showing your desk from above.
PS: Remember to share your screen for others to see this view!
3. Mail improvements
You can now:
- Undo send
- Schedule send
- Follow up and remind
4. Improved Spotlight search
- Find images in Photos, Messages, Notes, the Finder, and the web right from Spotlight.
- Search for an image based on the text inside it.
- Convert units
- Set a timer or alarm
5. Stage manager
With Stage manager, you can make different groups of apps for specific tasks or projects. Arrange, resize, and overlap them in your ideal layout. This way you can stay focused while easily moving between tasks (or get really confused by apps flying around 😆)
6. Redesigned look and feel for Settings
System Preferences have (finally) been renamed to System Settings, and have gotten a new design — instantly familiar to iPhone and iPad users.
You can now also search to find hidden settings that were hard to navigate to.
7. Focus modes
You can now fine-tune your focus like on iOS:
- Select apps and people you want to receive notifications from by either allowing them or silencing them.
- Draw boundaries in Apple apps like Calendar and Messages by hiding distracting content with Focus filters.
8. Live Text
Live Text is now available on macOS. You can now copy, translate, look up, and share text from any photo or video in the operating system.
9. Preview your fonts in FontBook
It is now easier to find the perfect font by browsing your different fonts in Font Book, due to the new grid and sample modes.
You can even search for glyphs that you need support for (æøå in Scandinavia as an example)
10. Background sounds
You can now play calming sounds, such as ocean or rain, to mask unwanted environmental noise and help minimize distractions directly in macOS.
Go to System Settings > Accessibility > Background Sounds to turn it on.
