Get more storage on your iPhone with these 10 simple methods
Offload Unused apps:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Tap Enable Offload Unused Apps
You can also go into an app and offload it.
This way, your iPhone automatically uninstalls apps you don’t use. They aren’t entirely gone: They download again when you open them.
Delete pre-installed apps you don't use:
These pre-installed apps take almost 4 GB from your phone • GarageBand • Keynote • iMovie • Pages • Numbers
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Select each app you don't use and click "Delete App"
Clear your ram:
- Turn on Assistive Touch under Settings > Accessibility > Touch
- Hold down the "power" button and the "volume up" button until you see the screen for powering off your phone
- Tap the Assistive Touch icon (a gray circle), then hold the "home" button.
Delete downloaded videos you don't need:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Review Downloaded Videos
- Click edit
- Click the red dot that appears next to the video
- Click delete on the videos you don't want
Clear your browsing history:
- Go to Settings > Safari
- Scroll down and click on "Clear History and Website Data"
Clear cache from other apps:
This is a bit tedious since most apps don’t give you access to their cache or other data:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and tap on an app at the top of the list.
- Select Delete App
- Go to the App Store and reinstall the app.
Delete attachments in messages:
- Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Scroll & tap on Messages
- Select Photos or gifs (NB: Top Conversations will delete entire threads)
- Tap on edit
- Mark what you want to delete
- Tap the trash icon
- Repeat for other content
Delete offline content:
Netflix:
- Open Netflix
- Go to Downloads
- Tap on the pencil icon
- Tap on the red X
Spotify:
- Open Spotify
- Your Library
- Downloaded
- Click on playlist
- Tap on the green arrow below the playlist
- Tap remove
Make sure your iPhone is optimizing photo storage:
- Sign in to your iCloud account. It’s the same as your Apple ID.
- Settings > Photos
- Turn on iCloud Photos
- You can also tap "Optimise iPhone Storage"
Your photos will now be synced to iCloud. (Free up to 5GB)
Automatically delete old messages:
- Go to Settings > Messages
- Tap the Keep Messages option under Message History.
- Select if you'd like your iPhone to retain text messages for 30 days, one year, or forever.
